Training course for teachers "Large language models for linguists"
Large-scale language models and generative artificial intelligence significantly increase the possibilities of linguistic research because they permit analysis and generation of language structures based on huge corpora of texts. This helps to reveal new patterns in the structure, development and use of language at different linguistic levels.
In the course, students will learn how large-scale language models allow new approaches to synchronic and diachronic language and speech research, apply OpenAI GPT models for in-depth analysis of the development of semantic and grammatical systems of various European languages, detect changes in lexical meaning and grammatical structures. The course will provide many examples of research explorations carried out using large-scale language models, and introduce the participants to important practical tools.
Minimum requirements for course participants: experience working with corpora, having a certificate from our advanced training courses for scientific and pedagogical workers under the Program "Use of Linguistic Corpora in Teaching Language Disciplines and Language Research" will be an advantage.

We offer group and individual consultations, technical support for philologists, and guidance on the creation and annotation of corpora, as well as on corpus research methodology. The laboratory serves as a platform for communication and knowledge exchange among students from various philological disciplines. Within the project, students will gain hands-on experience in sociolinguistics, corpus and computational linguistics while performing various large-scale systematic data preparation and exploration of dynamics and variation in Ukrainian and dialects. There are 3 directions of laboratory activity.
In the laboratory, students with a demonstrated interest in research will have the opportunity to undertake an educational and scientific placement (a professional internship for philologists).
